Can Chatwood Overcome Rocky Outings at Coors Field?

Another win for the Rockies today will give them the sweep over the Giants and a record of 46-26 but they’ll have to overcome Tyler Chatwood’s terrible home splits in order to do so. San Fran has been horrible this season and despite playing Colorado fairly closely this series, they’ll be considerable underdogs this afternoon with Ty Blach (4-4, 4.24 ERA) taking the mound.

SHARK BITES
  • The Giants have a 6-14 SU record this season in series finales.
  • The Rockies are 7-0 SU in their last 7 games against the Giants in Colorado.
  • The Rockies are 9-1 SU in their last 10 games as home faves against the Giants.

No pitcher suffers the wrath of Coors Field like Chatwood does as evident by the 4.58 differential between his home and road ERA. He’s been blown up in both of his last two starts in Colorado but since his last home outing, the 27-year-old righty has given up just three runs over 20 innings pitched. If he can figure out how to pitch at elevation, the Rox’ starter could become one of the best hurlers in the majors.

Although this will be his first start at Coors, Blach has actually performed well at the most volatile stadium in the bigs. He’s pitched six total innings in Colorado since being called up last season and he’s given up just two hits in four relief appearances.

Colorado has a chance to pull even with the Astros today for the best record in baseball and you’re getting decent value on the Rox at -150 if you beleive in the trends.
