In yet another slump, the Indians’ season has been one of extreme ups and downs and their sweep at the hands of the Twins tumbled them out of first place in the AL Central. They’ll host the Rangers in a four-game set this week and they’ll be significant favorites in the first contest Monday evening.
Carlos Carrasco (8-3, 2.99 ERA) will be called upon to end the Indians’ three-game losing streak today and he’ll be matched up with a freshly activated Cole Hamels (2-0, 3.03 ERA) in the effort. The Indians have won three straight games with their Venezuelan righty on the mound and Carrasco has given up a minuscule total of just three runs in those starts.
The start for Hamels will be his first in two months and it has the potential to be a rusty one. The 33-year-old lefty has never been particularly successful against the Tribe, going 1-2 with a 4.94 ERA against Cleveland in five career starts against the reigning American League champions.
That said, Hamels has been much better on the road since landing in Texas in 2015 and if he and Carrasco both pitch like they’re able to, we could be in for a show from the two starters tonight.
