Tyson Ross pitched in a surprise quality start last night and it helped to lift the Rangers over the Indians for the first time in five games this season. Looking to compound that result with another win this evening, the Rangers will call upon Yu Darvish (6-5, 3.12 ERA) in a game they opened as very slight favorites.
Cleveland will get its manager back for the contest tonight with all the tests done on Terry Francona coming back negative and they’ll look to Trevor “Drone Boy” Bauer (6-6, 5.53 ERA and 1.43 WHIP) to get one for the skipper. Bauer’s numbers have been heading in the right direction of late but the fact is he still gives up far too many hits (9.4 per nine innings) to be successful in the major leagues.
Maybe he can learn a thing or two from his counterpart tonight.
Darvish-San is coming off a hard-luck loss against the Yankees in which he allowed just two hits and no runs in seven innings of work. The Japanese international struck out 10 Yanks in the contest and he lowered his road ERA to 2.23.
The 30-year-old Darvish will give the Rangers a significant edge on the starting bump but as we’ve seen in the first two games in this series, that hasn’t made much of a difference in the results.
