The Lone Star Series will re-engage this evening when the Astros invade Arlington for what will be their third set against the Rangers this season. Recently overtaking the Cubs as World Series faves, the ‘Stros have the best record in baseball at 44-20 and can extend their massive lead in the AL West against a Rangers team they’ve beaten six times in seven meetings.
Joe Musgrove (4-4, 4.89 ERA) and Yu Darvish (5-4, 3.18 ERA) will take the mound for their respective teams and both will be looking for better performances than they were able to put forth the last time they pitched against the other’s team. Musgrove lasted just four innings in his only matchup with the Rangers this year while Darvish gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings of work in his lone start against the ‘Stros.
Houston’s starter, however, is coming off an outing in which he gave up no runs over seven innings against a potent Orioles’ offense. The 24-year-old has been a little inconsistent over the course of his young career and he’s prone to giving up the long ball.
If the Rangers are going to win a game this series it’s this one. Musgrove has been the ‘Stros worst starter in 2017 and he should have trouble with the powerful lefty bats in the Rangers’ lineup.
