The Astros Have Had R.A. Dickey's Number

The non-waiver trade deadline has come and passed with the Toronto Blue Jays being one of the biggest movers of the day. One of their acquisitions, Scott Feldman, crossed the field in Houston last night to join his new team only to blow the game for the Jays in extras. R.A. Dickey (7-12, 4.66 ERA) will take the mound tonight looking for redemption for Toronto as he matches up against Lance McCullers (6-4, 3.18 ERA).

SHARK BITES
  • The Blue Jays are 3-8 in their last 11 games against the Astros.
  • The Astros are 4-13 in their last 17 games after winning as an underdog.
  • The Astros’ lineup has a blistering .337 combined batting average vs Dickey.

The second-year McCullers came up from Triple-A in mid-June and has lowered his ERA almost every start he’s made since getting blown up in his first start. McCullers has been great through nine starts at home and owns a 5-2 record and a 2.28 ERA at Minute Maid Park.

R.A. has allowed at least five runs in three straight starts with his knuckleball not knuckling quite as much as it has in the past. He has, however, pitched much better on the road than at Rogers Centre and in his last start in the state of Texas, Dickey pitched an eight-inning, three-hit shutout against the Rangers.
