Nothing’s coming easy for the Blue Jays these days, well, unless you count losing. A little bluer than normal, they’ll send Marcus Stroman (8-4, 3.41 ERA) to the bump today in search of their first win in five games but they’ll have to earn it against Masahiro Tanaka, Aaron Judge and the rest of the 43-37 New York Yankees.
Typically dominant against this Toronto lineup, Tanaka owns a career 7-3 record vs the Jays and has been pitching much better of late, allowing just two runs in his last 14 innings. His season got off to a bit of a rocky start but it looks like the sinkerball specialist has figured things out and he should be a threat to put up zeros in the Bronx this evening.
For the Jays, Stroman has been the only starter who’s been able to get them W’s on a consistent basis this season. They’ve won eight of his last 10 starts and could make for an interesting underdog play tonight if Stro can put his two brutal 2017 starts against the Yanks behind him.
Before this season, Stroman had a 5-2 record and 2.17 ERA in eight starts against the Jays’ pinstriped rivals so his ERA of seven vs the Yankees this year is most likely an anomaly.
