Mariners Win When King Felix Takes the Mound

The Mariners have had their playoff hopes seriously doused as they’ve dropped two in a row to one of the teams they are chasing in the standings. Aaron Sanchez (13-2, 3.17 ERA) will take the bump opposite Felix Hernandez (11-6, 3.79 ERA) this afternoon looking to close out the Jays’ road trip with a sweep in Seattle.

SHARK BITES
  • The Mariners are 7-2 in their last 9 games with Felix Hernandez as the starting pitcher.
  • The Blue Jays are 2-6 in their last 8 games on the road after a win on the road.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 9 of the Blue Jays' last 10 games after consecutive wins.

Sanchez has been dealing with blisters the last couple of weeks and they seem to have seriously affected his pitching performance. In his two starts this month, Sanchez has given up nine earned runs in just 10.2 innings and has struck out only six batters. The hope is that these blisters have been remedied and the Jays’ young righty will be back to the form that has seen him post an 8-1 record and 2.62 ERA on the road.

King Felix has had a pretty rough go of things lately as he’s allowed five or more runs in three of his last four starts. Two of those starts were made vs the Texas Rangers, whom Hernandez has struggled against a bit in his career and has a 7.47 ERA against them this season. The Venezuelan has not pitched against the Jays this year, but he is 2-0 against teams in the AL East.
