Watch Rockies for Value in April Games

Nolan Arenado Carlos Gonzalez Colorado Rockies MLB

The 2016 Major League Baseball season begins this weekend and while it’s tough to cap the early days of the campaign, history might be able to tell you which teams to back and which to avoid when you’re looking at straight-up wagers or teams to build your parlay cards with.

Speaking of cards, the St. Louis Cardinals have been the pacesetters in April when it comes to win-loss records. The Redbirds have gone 74-49 SU in the previous five Aprils combined and posted the best record in the bigs last April with a 15-6 mark. You’ll need to pick your spots to find value when backing the Cards or you can always add them to parlay cards as they are one of those teams that will be posted as faves the majority of their games.

Perhaps surprisingly, the Colorado Rockies were also a good SU wager in the early stages of the season in recent years. Last season, the Rox went 11-10 and have the fourth-best SU record in the bigs over the last five seasons with a 71-52 mark (57.7 percent) in April ball games.

When it comes to fade material, it’s probably no surprise that the San Diego Padres have the worst SU record in April over the past five seasons. The Friars have gone just 49-78 in April since 2011; a winning percentage of just 38.6. Last season, the Milwaukee Brewers were the slowest out of the gates with a 5-17 mark. There’s no reason to believe the Brew Crew will be any better, so they look to be prime fade material in 2016.

Here’s how April’s SU records shaped up last season as well as a combined record in the previous five seasons.
