MMA Strikeforce Betting Preview

The vacant Strikeforce Welterweight championship will be up for grabs this weekend at Strikeforce Miami, but the title bout isn’t the one that has people talking.

There are actually two title bouts on the fight card in Florida this weekend, but the fight getting the most buzz is the MMA debut of former NFL star Herschel Walker. Yes you read that right. It really will be 1982 Heisman winner and 47-year-old Herschel Walker fighting this weekend.

Walker’s debut in the Heavyweight division will be against another inexperienced fighter, Greg Nagy. Nagy, who’s only 26, has a career MMA record of 1-1. He last fought at Rage in the Cage 136 in November where he lost to Francisco Navarro by unanimous decision.

On to the more meaningful bouts on the fight card, where the vacant Welterweight championship title will be up for grabs when Nick Diaz takes on Marius Zaromskis.

Diaz is a lifetime 20-7 and one no contest with 11 wins by knockout and six by submission. He has won his last five bouts and last fought in June at Strikeforce: Lawler vs. Shields. That night he defeated Scott Smith by submission with a rear naked choke in the third round.

Zaromskis will be making his Strikeforce debut on Saturday. He’s also won his last five fights and last fought in October at DREAM 12 in Japan. He beat Ho Bae Myeon by knockout after delivering a head kick only 19 seconds into the opening round. After that win his lifetime MMA record stands at 13-3 with 11 wins by knockout.

Zaromskis may boast a lot of knockout power, but Diaz is the fight favorite at Bodog at -260, while Zaromskis is listed at +200.

The other title bout on the fight card Saturday night is for the Women’s Lightweight title between champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos and challenger Marloes Coenen.

Coenen isn’t new to MMA and sports a 17-3 record with 12 wins by submission. She last fought at a Strikeforce event in November when she defeated Roxanne Modafferi by submission after locking on an arm bar in the first round.
