Monday Night Football odds and pick
It’s the third week of the NFL season, but the Chargers (0-2) really need a win, as the Broncos are already 3-0 in the AFC West. The Jets (1-1) could also really use a win, as in the AFC East the Buffalo Bills are 3-0 and the New England Patriots are 2-1.
New York Jets at San Diego Chargers -8.5 O/U 44
The Jets lost last week to the Patriots 19-10 after being favored by a point, while the Chargers lost to the Broncos 39-38 and they were also favored by a point. Last week neither the Jets nor the Chargers covered the spread.
The Jets offense is still getting used to Brett Favre, as they are only scoring an average of 15 points in their first 2 games. The Chargers are averaging 31 points per game, but they are also giving up an average of 32.5 ppg.
The Chargers defense is ranked 2nd to last in the NFL and they are horrible against the run. The key to this game may be the health of their stud RB LeDanian Tomlinson, who has a bruised tow and is questionable for the game.
This season against the spread the Jets are 1-1 and the Chargers are 0-1-1. Since the Jets are having a tough time putting points on the board they are 0-2 in terms of Over/Under while the Chargers and their high scoring offense are 2-0.
In their last 5 games the Jets have gone Under every time and 4 of 5 times in their last 5 road games. San Diego has been a good bet ATS, as in their last 10 games they are 9-1-1 ATS. Also in the Chargers last 6 games the Over bet has been the winning one.
My Pick: The Chargers are not dead, but they really need to win this home game on Monday Night. Look for them to wake up and play better and cover the 8.5 point spread. The Chargers are too good a team to go 0-3.
This may be a good game to take the Over (+44), as even though the Jets are having trouble on offense they play a weak Chargers D and the Chargers are having no trouble scoring.
