NASCAR All-Star Betting Odds

It's All-Star Weekend for NASCAR in Charlotte, but that doesn't mean bettors get a break as they can still wager on the Sprint Cup Showdown and the 2011 All-Star Race itself.

For NASCAR newbies this is how the All-Star Race works: Any driver who has won a Cup championship, an All-Star Race in a previous year, or a Sprint Cup race in 2010 or 2011 gets into the All-Star Race. The rest of the Sprint Cup drivers gets entered into the 40-lap Sprint Cup Showdown, where the top two finishers and the fan pick get a spot in the All-Star Race.

Okay, lets talk about this year's Sprint Cup Showdown field. It consists of 28 drivers with a few notable names such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., Jeff Burton, and Joey Logano. Earnhardt Jr. is the favorite in the race at 5Dimes at +325, but he really doesn't need to win to get into the All-Star Race because you know he's going to win the fan vote as the circuit's most popular driver.

Following Earnhardt Jr. on the Sprint Cup Showdown odds at 5Dimes is Truex Jr. at +550. He may be the smartest pick for bettors this weekend; Truex Jr. is the defending Sprint Cup Showdown champion, and he also won the Showdown in 2007.

Other former Showdown winners in this weekend's field include A.J. Allmendinger from 2008, Scott Riggs from 2006, Brian Vickers from 2005 (+750), and Burton from 2003 (+625).

Now let's move on to the All-Star Race. The defending champion of the All-Star Race is Kurt Busch, but his brother Kyle is the favorite on the NASCAR odds at 5Dimes at +550. Kurt can be found farther down the odds list at +2000.

Jeff Gordon leads all active drivers with three All-Star Race victories, and he's a +1300 underdog at 5Dimes. Gordon's last All-Star win was in 2001, and he also won in 1997 and 1995.

The only other winners of multiple All-Star events in this weekend's field are Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin, with two each. Johnson won in 2006 and 2003 and is a +725 underdog to add a third win this weekend. Martin's last All-Star win was in 2005, and he also won in 1996. He's a +2750 longshot to add another All-Star title this weekend.
