Matt Kenseth 10th Favorite as Defending Champ This Weekend

NASCAR drivers are revving up their engines for the Pure Michigan 400 this Sunday and there is some definite value on the board as no driver has won this race in consecutive years for just under three decades.

Martin Truex Jr. has been deemed the +550 favorite on Bovada and for the life of me, I can’t understand why. The Toyota driver has not had a top-five finish in eight straight races and has never won this race. On top of that, Truex Jr. finished 12th at the FireKeepers Casino 400, the last race run at the Michigan International Speedway.

Joey Logano comes into the Pure Michigan 400 this year as the defending champion of the last race run at the Michigan International Speedway and is the second favorite to win the race behind Truex Jr. at +575 odds. Logano won this race back in 2013 and would become the 14th man to win the race at least twice if he crosses the line first Sunday.

The Sprint Cup points leader, Kevin Harvick, is third on Bovada’s odds list at +625 after earning his first win of the season at the Bass Pro Shops NRA Night Race last weekend. Harvick has finished top 10 in eight of the last ten races and won this race back in 2010.

Matt Kenseth is the defending champion of the Pure Michigan 400 and has +825 odds to consolidate this year. The caveat here is that no one has won this race in consecutive years since Bill Elliott won it three straight years from ’85-’87. If Kenseth wins this weekend, he will become just the sixth driver to win the race three or more times.

Greg Biffle could be worth a look as a long-shot bet at +12500. The Ford driver has won the race twice in his career with the last victory coming in 2012. Biffle has not finished better than 16th in the last four races but had three top-10 finishes in a row before the poor stretch he is currently on.
