Clippers vs Grizzlies Series Betting

In a meeting of a couple up-and-coming teams in the Western Conference the Memphis Grizzles take on the Los Angeles Clippers in a first-round playoff series starting Sunday night.

Sportsbooks had Memphis as a five-point favorite for Sunday's series opener (9:30 pm Eastern, TNT), with an 'over/under' of 185.

The Grizzlies are also listed at -200 at Bovada to win this series, while LA is getting +170 as the underdog.

And on the NBA betting futures market, sportsbooks are offering the Grizz at 10/1 to win the Western Conference and 22/1 to win the NBA title, while the Clippers are getting 14/1 to win the West and 28/1 to win the league championship.

The Clippers, with guards Chris Paul and Chauncey Billups running the show, began this season by winning 15 of their first 22 games. But then Billups was lost for the season, and maybe longer, when he tore an Achilles tendon.

LA struggled for a while without their veteran guard, but eventually got things going, and went on a 13-2 run into April. But they lost three of their last four games, in the process coughing up home-court advantage for this first-round series.

At 40-26 the Clippers enter these playoffs as the five seed in the West.

Memphis was a bit slow out of the gate this year, and sat at 12-13 in early February. But the Grizzlies finished on a 16-4 run, winning their last six in a row, to end up at 41-25 and as the four seed in the West.

The Clippers took two of three games from Memphis during the regular season. All three of those games played 'under' their posted totals. [ Bet Blake Griffin prop bets at the best prices - check out Bovada ]

On the injury front Paul sat out the Clippers regular-season finale because of a sore groin, but he should  be ready to go Sunday.

Both these teams played well at home but struggled on the road this year. Memphis went 26-7 at the FedEx Forum but 15-18 away from there, while the Clippers went 24-9 at Staples Center but 16-17 everywhere else.

In an interesting statistical matchup the Grizzlies led the league in steals this season with almost 10 per game, but LA ranked second in the league in taking care of the ball by committing just 12 turnovers per game.
