When the regular season ended, the ragtag group of veterans and castoffs surrounding Dirk Nowitzki in Dallas was a 20/1 longshot to win the NBA title.
Good thing for Mavericks fans that nobody told the players they had no chance of winning.
The Mavs completed a 4-2 win over Miami on Sunday and fans cheered Nowitzki's longtime search for a title and jeered the Heat, whose free agency moves to bring in LeBron James and Chris Bosh were derided.
Miami had been favored throughout and after dispatching Boston and Chicago in the East, were significant favorites entering the Finals.
But LeBron wilted and Dwyane Wade wasn't able to singlehandedly deliver wins like he did in 2006 against these same Mavericks.
