Isaiah Thomas Props: Is He on Pace for a Historic Season?

At five-foot-nine, Isaiah Thomas is used to being overlooked. But the NBA’s shortest player, who was drafted with the last pick in the 2011 draft by the Sacramento Kings, is on pace to have one of the best seasons in Boston Celtics franchise history. Talk about overcoming the odds.

At the all-star break, Thomas is averaging a phenomenal 29.9 points per game – good enough for second in the NBA behind only Russell Westbrook. Thomas has blossomed into a superstar since getting traded to Beantown two years ago, and the 27-year-old is a major reason the Celtics are holding on to the second spot in the Eastern Conference with a solid 37-20 SU record.

Does Thomas have enough gas in the tank to reach legendary status in Boston this year? BetOnline is offering a prop on the diminutive guard, with -140 odds on him having a better season than Larry Bird’s 1987-88 campaign (29.9 points per game or higher). The “no” option comes in at +110.

It won’t be easy to catch Westbrook, but if you think Thomas can win the NBA scoring title, you can get it for some great value at +300. The chances of the Washington product not garnering the bragging rights are -400.

I’m not sure if Thomas will be able to beat out the likes of Westbrook and James Harden for the scoring title, but Bird’s record looks like a very reachable milestone at this point. With 25 games remaining, the Celtics will rely on their floor general more than ever, so I don’t see his torrid pace slowing down any time soon.
