D'Antoni hired: Lakers Prop Odds
Update: The Los Angeles Lakers hired Mike D'Antoni to be their next coach Monday. D'Antoni was a co-favorite with longtime Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan to be the next coach in LA, but the betting market and media latched onto Phil Jackson.
A Bovada representative told OddsShark.com that 70 percent of the money bet on the prop odds was on Jackson. "It would have been a pretty big loser for us if they would have gone with Phil," the representative added.
Who will be the next coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, after Mike Brown was fired Friday after just five games? Former Suns and Knicks boss Mike D'Antoni and longtime Jazz boss Jerry Sloan lead the Lakers coach odds, which were posted Friday afternoon at Bovada within hours of the news.
Brown, in his second year with the Lakers, was sacked after a 1-4 start that had many speculating about how long the new-look Lakers would wait. The answer was, not long.
AP stated: "Assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff will serve as interim coach while the Lakers search for a long-term replacement."
Just this week, Lakers management claimed it was not panicking.
"You don't start 0-3 for the first time since we've owned the franchise without being on top of it," Jerry Buss told ESPNLosAngeles.com. "No matter what, you have to be aware. That doesn't mean change is coming. That just means you have to be aware."
