NBA Betting: Lakers/Hornets

The NBA has some big matchups throughout the second weekend of 2011, including the Los Angeles Lakers as home favorites in the NBA lines when they host the New Orleans Hornets.

After skidding late in December, the Lakers are heating up and shops such as $BETUS-LINK$ and $BODOG-LINK$ are taking notice. Kobe Bryant and company have won four of five. The next step is for them to right the ship in regards to their NBA odds; they’ve only beaten the spread twice during their 4-1 run.

Thanks to Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum and Lamar Odom, the Los Angeles Lakers are second in the league in offensive rebounding.

The Hornets enter L.A. having won three of four and beaten three of their last four NBA betting lines. Chris Paul is their go-to guy but defense will be key on Friday. Can the league’s No. 3 defensive team stop Kobe Bryant? It’s a tall order considering the Lakers are at home and starting to find their groove again.

An old-school Eastern Conference rivalry resumes on Saturday night when the Boston Celtics put their NBA odds to the test against the Chicago Bulls. The Celtics, who lead the NBA in scoring defense, made a big statement at home earlier this week when they beat the first-overall San Antonio Spurs.

But can the Boston Celtics handle a sizzling Chicago Bulls team without Kevin Garnett? Through Wednesday’s action the Bulls had won seven of 10 games; they’re 19-14-1 against the spread this year. MVP candidate Derrick Rose leads them with 23.8 points and eight assists per game through Wednesday’s action.

Carlos Boozer continues to find his groove since returning from his hand injury, averaging 19.7 points and 9.9 boards per game.

The biggest game of all may come on Sunday night. The Lakers should once again be home favorites at books like Bovada and Sportsbook.ag when they host the New York Knicks in a high-profile matchup.

Under high-flying coach Mike D’Antoni, the Knicks lead the NBA with 107.8 points per game. Through Wednesday’s action they had won four of six, with their only losses over that span coming in tough road games at Miami and Orlando.

The Knicks have been NBA odds warriors this season. They’re 22-11-1 ATS and an amazing 10-2 ATS over their last 12 road games. Amare Stoudemire and Raymond Felton have been the dynamic duo this year, combining for 44.4 points per game.

But what about Wilson Chandler? The fourth-year player is averaging a career-best 17.9 points per game and has topped 20 points in four of his last six contests.
