NBA Team Focus: Memphis Grizzlies

Memphis Grizzlies

Words like afterthought and gatekeeper usually come to mind when thinking about the consistently consistent Memphis Grizzlies. At 31-22 SU on the season, the Grizzlies sit in fifth place in the Western Conference and look poised for a sixth straight playoff appearance. Even though the Grizz aren’t a good candidate for any type of long-term futures bet, there are a few areas where they've been quite profitable for bettors this season.

The second game of a back-to-back is something bettors are always on the lookout for. A team playing with no rest is often a reason to bet against them, but that’s not the case for the Grizzlies who are the NBA’s best bet in the second games of back-to-backs.

At 8-3 ATS in that situation, Memphis has covered the spread in 72% of second games in back-to-backs this season, which tops the Warriors 69% mark. Memphis was especially strong playing with no days off between games at home, where they went 4-1 ATS.

Also of note, the Grizz were 3-1 SU as underdogs in second game of back-to-backs.

Their next opportunity to improve upon the back-to-back trend comes on the road vs the Lakers and Suns on February 26 and 27.

Memphis is also worth a look in totals betting. They were especially profitable as a road underdog, as they went UNDER in nine of 12 games (75%).

At home though, it was the other side of the coin, as they have an OVER/UNDER record of 18-10, going OVER in 64% of their games at FedExForum.

The Grizzlies will pick up the second part of their season Friday night at home vs Minnesota before packing their bags for a date with the Raptors in Toronto on Sunday. The home OVER trend has a good chance of continuing against the T-Wolves, as the teams have gone OVER in four of their five last matchups, including twice already this season.
