NBA Weekend - Spurs Host Hornets

The Spurs are streaking and the Hornets are struggling, but beware laying some green on San Antonio, as they are only 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games as the favorite and the Hornets are 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 road games

New Orleans Hornets (31-31) at San Antonio Spurs (34-24)

Bovada has the Spurs as 8-point favorites in this game with a total of 197.

In a Southwest Division match up tonight in the Lone Star State the San Antonio Spurs host the New Orleans Hornets. This is a match up of a couple of teams heading in different directions, as the Spurs have won two in a row and are 6-4 in their last 10 games and the Hornets have lost three in a row and are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

The Hornets want some revenge, as on Monday night the Spurs crushed them in their house losing by 14 points in the Big Easy.

The Hornets have to catch fire to make the post-season, as they trail eighth place Portland by five games in the Western Conference. San Antonio is in the playoff picture, but they are in the seventh position in the West and they have to play well for the remainder of the season not only to make the playoffs but also to avoid playing an elite team, especially the Lakers, in the first round of the playoffs.

In their last games the Spurs blasted the Hornets 106-92 on Monday night and the Hornets lost to the Memphis Grizzlies 104-100 on Wednesday night.

The next few weeks are crucial for the Spurs, as they face the Cavaliers twice, the Lakers, Magic, and Hawks AND they will not get a lot of rest with 15 games in the next 25 days, including five back-to-back games.

The Spurs have won 1o of their last 11 games at home against New Orleans.

Chris Paul is still out for the Hornets, but rookie Darren Collison has been playing well in his absence averaging 22.2 ppg in his last 12 games. Collison not only has to give the Hornets some offense tonight, but he also has to play good defense on Tony Parker (16.6 ppg).

New Orleans has been struggling on defense, as they only rank 20th in the league in opponents’ points allowed (101.4 ppg).

Emeka Okafor (10.7 ppg 9.3 rpg) was signed by New Orleans mainly for his defense and he will have to earn his loot tonight defending Tim Duncan (19.2 ppg 10.9 rpg).

The Hornets really have to hit the boards as a team, as they have a rebounding differential of -2.1 rpg while the Spurs are solid on the glass at +2.7 rpg.

Saturday Big Games

Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat

The Heat are coming off a huge OT win over the L.A. Lakers and they need to keep winning, as they are in the eighth position in the East only 1.5 games ahead of the Charlotte Bobcats. The Hawks have won three in a row and are in the third position in he East, but they are only one game above .500 on the road this season.

Dallas Mavericks at Chicago Bulls

This non-conference game is important for both teams, as the Mavs only lead the Denver Nuggets by half a game for second place in the West while the Bulls only lead the Miami Heat by half a game for the seventh spot in the East.

Sunday NBA Point Spread Preview

L.A. Lakers at Orlando Magic

The Lakers lost to the Bulls in OT in Miami on Thursday night and look to avoid a Sunshine State sweep with a win over the Magic. That will not be easy playing a Magic team that has won three in a row and is 7-3 in their last 10 games.

Portland Trailblazers at Denver Nuggets

As of Friday the Blazers are in the eighth position in the West and they need to start winning if they want to stay in the playoff picture. They would love to move up to, at least, the seventh spot so they do not have to face the L.A. Lakers in the first round of the playoffs. As of Friday the Nuggets only trail the Dallas Mavericks by half a game for the second position in the West.
