Rockets odds climb with Howard deal

Some say Dwight Howard is only half the player he used to be, so that makes the math on the Houston Rockets' NBA odds being cut in half a little confusing.

Howard announced he will sign as a free agent in Houston and abandon the crumbling Los Angeles Lakers empire.

Oddsmakers at Bovada quickly chopped the Rockets' title odds in half from 20-1 to 10-1, tied with the Bulls and Clippers as the third betting choice. The Heat and Thunder remain far and away the top betting choices.

The Lakers, predictably with a crumbling roster of aging, injured stars, saw their title odds balloon to 40-1 from 22-1 just last week. With Kobe on the shelf with an Achilles tear and Pau Gasol and Steve Nash on the verge of junkyard status, the Lakers are in major trouble.

The Spurs fell to 11-1, down from roughly 8-1 a few weeks back. So much for Manu Ginobili's announcement that he would return having a positive effect on the title odds.
