Warriors Could Make History in Game 7

Klay Thompson Golden State Warriors

Well, that escalated quickly.

The Golden State Warriors are once again proving why they should never be counted out when the stakes are at their highest. When the Oklahoma City Thunder took a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference finals, many fans and pundits across the Association wrote them off. All they did was win two straight games in impressive fashion to even the series up at three and force a do-or-die Game 7.

Considering only nine teams have ever climbed out of a 3-1 hole, would it shock me if Stephen Curry and company became the 10th? Not in the least. This team has it all: elite scoring, stifling defense, great coaching, a deep bench and a penchant for rising to the occasion when it really matters. This is not any ordinary basketball club.

Sportsbooks are believing in the Dubs, too. Online shop Bovada opened the Warriors as 7-point favorites for Monday's deciding tilt.

Do you think the Warriors can pull off the epic comeback? Here's a look at the nine teams that have done so in NBA history.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

Fresh off their first championship since 1975, the Golden State Warriors were looking like a lock to hoist the Larry O'Brien Trophy again entering the playoffs. Hell, they even made some extremely impressive history by setting a new regular season record for wins (73). But as of May 24, they find themselves in a 3-1 hole in the Western Conference finals.

Enter the Oklahoma City Thunder. OKC has done the seemingly impossible by pushing the Dubs to the brink of elimination thanks to some stellar play across the board. Ahead of Game 4, the Warriors had not dropped back-to-back games all season. Before Tuesday, the last time Golden State lost consecutive playoff games by at least 20 points was all the way back in 1972.

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant have been otherworldly, as the pair of superstars has effectively stolen the spotlight from Golden State’s Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

The question on everyone’s minds is: can the Warriors actually come back and win this thing? It won’t be easy, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

In NBA history, nine teams have successfully overcome 3-1 deficits to win a series. Houston’s comeback against the Clippers in last year’s Western Conference finals is the most recent example, but that was just the third time it’s happened in the last 19 years.

If anyone can defy the odds, it’s the Warriors. But unless a completely different Golden State team takes the floor in Game 5, the lustre of this magical season will soon turn into mass disappointment.
