Andrew Wiggins: Kansas Odds Soar

A week ago, Kansas was a 30-1 longshot to win the 2014 college basketball championship, but one signature from one teenager pushed that number to 10-1.

High school phenom Andrew Wiggins chose Kansas this week, and the result was that odds at some sportsbooks plummeted while others posted them for the first time.

At TopBet, Kansas was +1000 on Wednesday after being +3000 on May 1.

At Bovada, that sportsbook opened the Jayhawks as the 11-2 second betting choice, just behind the school Wiggins spurned - the lottery pick factory known as Kentucky.

"We were waiting on him to sign before opening these odds up," said Kevin Bradley of Bovada sportsbook. The book had not even posted college basketball futures in recent weeks.

"He is the biggest impact player we have seen in a long time and he is an immediate difference maker on college basketball future odds."

Bovada also posted a couple of Andrew Wiggins prop bets.

Wiggins was named the 2013 Naismith Prep Player of the Year in February and 2013 Gatorade boy's basketball National Player of the Year in March. He instantly became the top choice as the top draft pick for 2014, at -300 at Bovada.

Wiggins is the son of former NBA player Mitchell Wiggins and Canadian Olympic track and field sprinter Marita Payne-Wiggins. An older brother Nicky plays for Wichita State.

Kansas lost all five starters from last year's team but Wiggins, combined with fellow recruit Wayne Selden, moved the Jayhawks right back into Final Four discussions.
