Big East Tournament Update
The top seeds in the Big East make their tournament debut today, starting with No. 1 seed Syracuse in a tough battle with Georgetown.
The Hoyas made it through the opening round of the tourney on Wednesday by pummeling South Florida 69-49 as a 7-point favorite at Bovada. The Orange shouldn’t fear Georgetown considering how badly they beat them back in January. At home the Orange took care of the Hoyas 73-56 as a 5.5-point favorite. Overall the Orange have won three in a row versus the Hoyas and they’re 7-3 SU in their last 10. In today’s matchup Syracuse is a 6-point favorite.
The winner of Georgetown/Syracuse will move on to face the winner of today’s game between Marquette and Villanova. The Golden Eagles earned the right to face the Wildcats by edging St. John’s 57-55 as a 4-point favorite on Wednesday. During the regular season Villanova went 2-0 against Marquette, but both games were extremely close, decided by only two points. Despite that Villanova is a 5-point favorite today.
In the other two quarterfinal matchups at Madison Square Garden today Notre Dame faces Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati takes on West Virginia.
The Fighting Irish rolled over Seton Hall 68-56 as a 2.5-point favorite on Wednesday. Luke Harangody poured in 20 points in only his second game back from a lengthy injury layoff to power Notre Dame. Back on February 24 the Irish upset Pittsburgh 68-53 as a 1-point home underdog, and that was with Harangody sidelined.
The Bearcats pulled off an upset on Wednesday, knocking off Louisville 69-66 as a 6-point underdog to advance to face West Virginia today. The Mountaineers defeated Cincinnati 74-68 as a 12.5-point home favorite a few weeks ago. Cincinnati is 4-1 ATS in their last five games against the Mountaineers.
