2011 Big East Tournament Betting Odds

The DePaul Blue Demons will have the unenviable task of trying to knock off the  favored Connecticut Huskies when the two tip off in the opening round of the Big East tourney in NCAAB betting action on Tuesday afternoon.

Connecticut (21-9 SU, 13-11 ATS) has a record that on paper looks very promising for a deep run in the conference tournament, but they have suffered all nine losses within the Big East. Bettors would normally step back to consider an upset bet instead - but their opponents DePaul have just one win in conference play and only went 7-23 in the regular season.

This game should be a tune up for the ranked Huskies, but finishing the season with four losses in five games has the team doubting its ability coming into the postseason. DePaul has not won head-to-head since 2007 and the smart money will be with favored Connecticut on the NCAAB betting lines at Bovada for this contest.

With the lines expected to lean heavily in favor of the Huskies, it might be a chance to profit from a pointspread wager and a straight-up bet. Connecticut is just 1-4 ATS in its last five games, while the Blue Demons have a much better record against the spread when playing conference foes than the Huskies, who went 7-11 ATS within conference play.

These teams have made winners of UNDER bettors in five of the last six head-to-head matchups and could provide another winning possibility for NCAAB bettors at Bovada in this game.

Villanova (21-10 SU, 11-16 ATS) will take on the South Florida Bulls (9-22 SU, 13-12-1 ATS), who will be a big underdog at Madison Square Garden in a late Big East NCAAB betting matchup against the Wildcats.

The Wildcats are a perfect 5-0 in recent head-to-head and should garner most of the attention on the NCAAB betting lines at Sportsbook.ag for the matchup against the Bulls. Villanova has struggled down the stretch, losing four of five, but so has South Florida.

The Bulls did face Big East favorite Pittsburgh twice though, and only one team below them in the standings. The Bulls might be more battle-ready than Villanova but they don’t have the weapons to take out the Wildcats.

Point spread watchers have seen Villanova fail to cover the spread in five straight at Sportsbook.ag but they have covered in four straight against South Florida.

Two of the last three between the teams have sent OVER bettors to the payout window, and with the points-per-game average of the two teams it should make the OVER bet popular in totals betting for this postseason game.
