MAC Tournament Update

The MAC tournament reaches the quarterfinals today with top seed Kent State looking to make good on their ranking in their tourney opener versus Ohio.

The Bobcats defeated No. 8 seed Ball State 85-77 in overtime in the opening round, but they’re in much tougher against Kent State. During the regular season the Golden Flashes took care of the Bobcats twice, including a 62-60 win at Ohio as a 4-point road underdog at Bovada. In their last 10 matchups with Ohio, Kent State is 8-2 SU but only 4-6 ATS. In the rematch today the Golden Flashes are a 4.5-point favorite.

Before Kent State’s tournament debut, today’s action at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland gets started with Western Michigan vs. Central Michigan. They split the regular season series a game apiece with each winning at home. The Broncos defeated the Chippewas 70-61 as a 5-point home favorite earlier in the season, but the Chippewas got some revenge at home a month later in a 74-66 win as 3.5-point chalk. In today’s rubber match the Broncos are a slim 1.5-point favorite.

Game 2 on today’s MAC schedule is Akron vs. Eastern Michigan. The Zips won this tournament last year after pulling off a couple upsets. They’re favored in their opener this time as 6.5-point chalk versus Eastern Michigan. However, the Zips can’t take it too easy today. When they faced Eastern Michigan at home back in February they were upset 62-59 despite being a 12-point favorite. That loss snapped the Zips’ seven-game winning streak against Eastern Michigan.

The other game on tap in Cleveland today is Buffalo vs. Miami (OH). They also split the season series this year with the home team coming out on top both times. In the conference opener for both teams in January Buffalo hammered Miami 73-55 as a 4-point favorite. They also faced off in their regular season finales when Miami dumped Buffalo 73-62 as a 2.5-point favorite. The oddsmakers have this game listed as a pick’em, so expect a close one.
