March Madness Futures – Now and Then
If millions of brackets were busted when Kansas went down, how much money do you think was lost by futures bettors after the biggest upset of the tournament?
On the flip side, how many delicious longshot wagers are still alive, waiting to pay out BIG?
The answer is probably also in the millions – millions of dollars that is. Before the first game of the tournament tipped off, the Jayhawks were a +200 favorite to cut down the nets. Anyone who hoped to make a couple easy bucks on the Jayhawks is counting their losses now.
With the Jayhawks out, the new leader atop the March Madness futures list are the Kentucky Wildcats at +175. That’s a nice jump for the Wildcats, who were listed at +300 in the pre-tournament futures. It’s been an easy run so far for Kentucky, but that will change in the Sweet 16 when they get their first real competition in Cornell.

In case you’re thinking of taking a flyer on the Big Red they can be had at +7500, up from +30000.
Also taking advantage of the Jayhawks’ loss in the futures odds are the other remaining No. 1 seeds Syracuse and Duke. The Orange have also had an easy time through the early rounds of the tournament and have been bumped up to +400 from the pre-tourney standing of +800. Duke has also dominated their early opponents and it’s given them a lift from +800 to their current odds of +500 at Bovada.
The No. 2 seeds in the tourney, all of whom are still standing, have also seen their future odds take a solid jump. West Virginia and Kansas State are both down at +600, up from +1000 for the Mountaineers and +1500 for the Wildcats at Bovada. Ohio State is close behind at +800, up from +1500, while the odds start to decline from there, with Baylor much higher at +2500. It’s still an improvement on the Bears’ old odds, which were +3000.
