March Madness Mid Major Matchups

The finals of the Mountain West and Mid American Conference tournament finals boast four 20-win teams, but since they are Mid Majors, the losers will probably not get an invite to the Big Dance.

MAC Conference Final Odds

Ohio Bobcats (20-14 7-9 MAC) vs. Akron Zips (24-9 12-4 MAC)

At time of writing Bovada does not have a line for this game, but check back soon, as they always have the earliest lines posted.

Tonight in the MAC finals the Akron Zips face the surprising Ohio Bobcats. Ohio is surprise in the finals because they only finished ninth in the MAC this season and in the quarterfinals they scored a major upset beating regular season conference champion Kent State.

Akron finished second this season in the MAC and their road to the finals have been far from smooth winning in OT in the quarters and by two points in the semis.

Ohio has lost both games against Akron this season, but what they do have going for them tonight is that it is very hard to beat a team three times in one season and the game will be held in Ohio.

These two teams could not have more contrasting styles, as Akron is led by their frontcourt and Ohio is led by their backcourt.

Akron will have to win this game with their defense, which is solid, since they only have one player averaging in double figures.

Ohio has five players averaging in double figures led by G Armon Bassett (16.3 ppg).

For Ohio to pull off the upset in this game they will have to shoot the rock well from the outside and they cannot allow the Zips to win the battle of the boards. The latter will not be easy, as Akron has a much better frontcourt.

Mountain West Conference Final Odds

San Diego State Aztecs (24-8 11-5 MWC) vs. UNLV Runnin Rebels (25-7 11-5 MWC)

Tonight in the Mountain West Conference finals San Diego State faces UNLV. Since the MAC is not a major conference the loser of this game will probably not play in the NCAA tournament since eighth ranked New Mexico and 15th ranked BYU will get bids and the winning of tonight’s game will get an automatic bid. It is a major long shot that four teams from the conference will get in the Big Dance.

These two teams split the two games they played this season with each team winning at home.

UNLV will have a bit of a home court advantage in this game since the final will be held in Las Vegas.

Both teams are playing with confidence, as each beat a ranked team to make it to the finals with UNLV beating New Mexico 72-69 and SDSU beat BYU 70-66.

SDSU has a solid offense with four players averaging in double figures led by F Kawhi Leonard (12.6 ppg). The Aztecs are led by their frontcourt and they are solid on the glass with Leonard (9.5 rpg) and F Malcolm Thomas (7.9 rpg).

UNLV has a better backcourt than SDSU and they are led by G Tre'Von Willis (17.5 ppg). The Runnin Rebels really have to rebound well as a team since they only have one player that is averaging over five rebounds per game.

If UNLV does not shoot well from outside they will have a very hard time winning since they do not have much of an inside game.
