Bettors could have made a killing on futures so far during March Madness, but of course, you would have had to do something insane like pick Butler and Virginia Commonwealth to make the Final Four.
The Virginia Commonwealth Rams are in the Final Four. It's only days after they eliminated the Kansas Jayhawks and it's still unbelievable. When the tournament tipped off the Rams were +10000 underdog to win the Southwest region at Sportsbook.ag. That means a $10 wager would have paid you $1,000!
They weren't even on the oddsmakers' radar on the national championship futures, getting lumped in with “the field” at +7500.
Now two wins away from a possible national championship, the Rams are still the big underdog in the Final Four. On the latest futures list at Sportsbook.ag VCU is a +400 underdog to capture the national title. That's still much better than +7500, but it ranks them dead last on the March Madness odds list.

The favorite according to the oddsmakers are the Kentucky Wildcats at +150. Too bad you could have grabbed the Wildcats at +3500 a few weeks ago. Led by freshman Brandon Knight the Wildcats are looking for their first national title since 1998. First, though, they have to get through the Connecticut Huskies in the Final Four.
The Huskies weren't supposed to get this far. UConn began the tournament as a +3500 underdog to win the Big Dance, and a +500 underdog to win the West region. After powering through the Big East Tournament many experts didn't think that Connecticut would have enough left in the tank to put together a big run in the tournament.
They must not have counted on Kemba Walker averaging 26.7 points per game.
The Wildcats opened up as a 2.5-point favorite versus the Huskies at Sportsbook.ag. Earlier this season the Huskies and Wildcats clashed in the preseason Maui Tournament, and it wasn't even close as UConn routed Kentucky 84-67 as a 5-point underdog.
Turning back to VCU, the Rams' dreams of making the national title game go through Butler. The Bulldogs were in this exact situation last year when they went all the way to the final before getting edged out by Duke.
Despite Butler's wild run a year ago they weren't expect to duplicate it again this season. The Bulldogs were a +3000 underdog in the Southeast region and a mammoth +20000 longshot to win a national title at Sportsbook.ag. After posting upset after upset the Bulldogs are now listed at +300 to go all the way.
In the battle of the giant killers the Bulldogs are a 2.5-point favorite. That's the first time in the entire tournament that Butler has been favored, while the Rams shouldn't be intimidated as the underdog for the sixth time in the tournament. What's one more upset win?
