Wichita State Could Need Full-Court Press Vs Marquette

The Maui Invitational did not get off to a good start for the Wichita State Shockers. Despite finding themselves down 18 points to a mediocre Cal team, Wichita State eventually clawed back and won thanks to its full-court press. Gregg Marshall and company better get ready for more of the same style of play when they take on the Marquette Golden Eagles on Tuesday.

Shark Bites
  • Marquette G Andrew Rowsey has scored at least 20 points in every game this season.
  • The total has gone OVER in 5 of Marquette’s last 6 games against teams with winning records.
  • Wichita State is 30-6 SU in its last 36 games in November.

Marquette battled through a tough first-round game against VCU that saw the Golden Eagles struggle with the press put on by the Rams. Marquette gave up 17 turnovers due to the pressure but its shooters were able to remedy that situation. The Golden Eagles shot over 51 percent from the field and drained 13 threes on their way to victory but it won’t come as easy against Wichita State.

Wichita State defeated Cal thanks to a late switch to the full-court press, which forced a young opponent to turn the ball over, creating easy points for the Shockers. With the depth and experience on this team, coach Marshall may think about bringing the pressure more often in games to capitalize. Ultimately, guard Landry Shamet put the game away, as he scored 23 points and shot a perfect 4-for-4 from deep.
