Maryland vs. Temple Betting

The 16th annual BB&T Classic will run its tripleheader format again on December 5, and the field includes several major schools that should excite NCAA basketball betting sharps.

All eyes will be on Temple versus Maryland, arguably the day’s biggest matchup, at 8:00 p.m. ET on Sunday. Maryland is 5-0 at home through Tuesday’s action and Sunday’s game, played at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., could almost be a home-like atmosphere for them. Look for Maryland to be favored as a result.

The Terps will look to bounce back from a betting perspective; they beat Elon University 76-57 on November 26 but didn’t cover the 23-point spread at Bovada and SportsBetting.ag. They face a Temple team that hasn’t scored much this year but is 10th in the nation in points allowed per game.

The tournament also features a betting rematch. Navy and George Washington renew pleasantries at 5:15 p.m. ET. George Washington took down the Midshipmen 81-69 in last year’s BB&T Classic. Navy is struggling in every sense of the word. Through Tuesday’s games, it’s 3-6 on the year and winless against the spread. The Midshipmen’s leading scorer, Greg Brown, averages only 13.3 points per game.

George Washington hasn’t been any better, going 1-4 against the spread and 2-3 overall through Tuesday’s action. The Colonials are shooting a brutal 36.0 percent as a team this year. Their lone victory against the spread came on November 17 when they beat Marist 79-59, covering the 12 points at Bovada and Bovada.

Florida, the 18th-ranked team in the country, will also participate in the BB&T Classic. The Gators lead off the tourney against American University at 2:30 p.m. ET. Both teams were 5-1 through Tuesday’s action but the Gators are certain to be favored over an obscure school like American in this matchup.

The Gators are posting plenty of wins but it hasn’t always been pretty this season. They’ve gone just 1-4 against the spread so far and scored 61 or fewer points twice in their last three games. They did beat the spread on November 28, however, winning a tough game 55-51 at Florida State (and avenging a loss to Florida State in football the day before). Florida was a 4.5-point road underdog at Bovada, Bovada and countless other books.

How under the radar is American U? It hasn’t even had a spread at a major book for one of its games this season. That hasn’t stopped the Eagles from winning lots of games, led by Vlad Moldoveanu’s 21.4 points per contest. Still – we have to expect a big spread in Florida’s favor for this matchup.
