NCAA Hoops Tourneys Continue
Wednesday night's college basketball slate brings with it not only early-round conference tournament action in the Atlantic Sun and the Patriot League, but also a bunch of good big-name matchups in some of the big-name conferences.
In the Atlantic Sun tournament Wednesday night down in Macon, top-seeded Lipscomb takes on eighth-seeded Kennesaw State, and second-seeded Jacksonville plays seventh-seeded North Florida. Then Thursday, fifth-seeded (and defending conference tournament champion) East Tennessee State takes on fourth-seeded Campbell, and third-seeded Belmont runs with the tournament host, sixth-seeded Mercer.
The winners of those four games will meet Friday night, and the Atlantic Sun championship game will be played Saturday night.
In the Patriot League tournament Wednesday night, top-seeded Lehigh hosts eighth-seeded Army; fourth-seeded (and defending tournament champion) American hosts fifth-seeded Navy; seventh-seeded Holy Cross visits second-seeded Bucknell; and sixth-seeded Colgate visits third-seeded Lafayette. The winners of those games meet Sunday at the homes of the higher remaining seeds, and the Patriot League championship game will be played next Friday, March 12, on the home court of the highest remaining seed.
Wednesday in the Big East two NCAA Tournament bubble teams meet when UConn visits Notre Dame. The Irish are early 1.5-point favorites at Bovada over the Huskies, with an over/under of 143.
And a similar situation exists in the ACC when Florida State hosts Wake Forest. The Seminoles are 7-point faves over the Demon Deacons, with a total of 134.
The game of the night Wednesday takes place in the Big 12 at The Phog in Lawrence as second-ranked Kansas hosts fifth-ranked Kansas State. The Jayhawks are coming off their second loss of the season, Saturday at Oklahoma State. K State, meanwhile, has won seven games in a row, four of those on the road, in climbing into the Top 5 in the rankings. The last time these two teams met was about a month ago, in Manhattan, when KU won a thriller by two points in overtime.
Kansas is an early 9-point favorite over the Wildcats, with a total of 149.
Also Wednesday night Kentucky, coming off its second loss of the season, is an 8-point favorite at Georgia; Duke is a 1-point fave at Maryland; and in a good Conference USA battle UAB is an early 2.5-point home favorite over Memphis.
Conference tournament odds play continues Thursday night in the Atlantic Sun, the Big South, the Northeast, the MVC, and the Atlantic East.
