Tar Heels on college hoops lines

The North Carolina Tar Heels will begin their ACC Tournament journey as the No. 1 seed on Friday with a quarterfinal matchup against the Miami Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes barely survived the first round of the tourney after a close battle against the Virginia Cavaliers. Miami's shooters were ice cold in the game and they were actually down 10 in the waning minutes before a late surge sent the game into overtime. In OT Miami took control and rallied to a 69-62 win as 3-point favorites.

Even though they got past Virginia it was far from pretty for the Hurricanes. Malcolm Grant led Miami with 16 points but only shot 4-of-16. Garrius Adams, 4-for-12 for 10 points, and Durand Scott, 4-for-15 for 10 points, also struggled as the Hurricanes shot a poor 35% as a team.

It's going to take a much better effort from Miami to upset a North Carolina squad that lost only one of its final 13 games down the stretch. That included a road game against the Hurricanes on January 26 - the Tar Heels were 1.5-point road favorites and were able to cover the spread in a tight 74-71 win.

North Carolina picked up that win despite an off-night from Harrison Barnes. The freshman forward delivered late with a key three-pointer and finished the game with a team-high 13 points, but he also shot just 4-of-11. Barnes wasn't the only Tar Heel to struggle as the whole team came out flat and trailed Miami by 14 points early on. Scott led Miami with 18 points and Reggie Johnson added 11 points and 13 rebounds, but Miami wasn't able to keep the pressure on the Tar Heels with the lead - something they'll need to correct to deliver an upset on Friday.

It's been quite awhile since the Hurricanes have posted a win versus the Tar Heels. North Carolina has won seven straight versus Miami dating back to 2006. UNC is also 5-2 ATS in those games, which includes covering three big double-digit spreads.

In the Big Ten Tournament on Friday the No. 1 seed Ohio Buckeyes make their debut as huge tournament favorites. On the latest Big Ten Tournament odds at Sportsbook.ag the Buckeyes are -175 favorites to win the tournament. The closest team on the Big Ten Tournament odds list is Purdue at +300.

The Buckeyes kick off their tournament on Friday versus Northwestern. The Wildcats began the tournament yesterday with a 75-65 win over Minnesota as a 1-point favorite. Michael Thompson exploded for 35 points in that win, while Drew Crawford chipped in with 15 points.

Expect Ohio State to be heavily favored in this game, especially considering their history versus the Wildcats. The Buckeyes are 9-1 in their last 10 versus the Wildcats, but only 3-7 ATS. Going back further Ohio State is 19-1 SU and 10-10 ATS in their last 10 versus Northwestern.

That near-perfect record almost took a hit earlier this season when the Buckeyes barely edged the Wildcats 58-57 as a 10-point road favorite. Jared Sullinger led the Buckeyes with 21 points and he also broke a tie late in the game with a key free throw. Thompson led the Wildcats with 16 points and eight assists.
