Ole Miss Success Relies Heavily On Kelly

Ole Miss is Chad Kelly’s team and they are going to go exactly as far as he can carry them. Rebels’ fans just need to hope that he is fully recovered from hernia surgery or the outlook for the season could go from cautious optimism to total tire fire.

2016 National Championship Odds

Ole Miss is +4000 to win the national championship just ahead of the kickoff of the college season – which would be their first since 1962.

The first step will be making it through their schedule with one loss, as no team has made the playoffs with more than one L. That is not an easy task as Ole Miss has a schedule that features dates with Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M.

One of the big keys to beating these teams will be finding a competent receiver. Laquon Treadwell – who accounted for 25 percent of Ole Miss’ receiving yards last season – is gone and there is a huge void on the depth chart with his absence.

SEC Championship Odds

Ole Miss is listed at +1000 to win the SEC this season – which will be a colossal task for whoever completes the feat. However, if the Rebels want to win then they will need to not take any games off.

Ole Miss defeated the likes of Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU and Oklahoma State last season, but their losses came against good-not-great teams. Taking L’s to teams like Memphis and Arkansas simply can’t happen if the Rebels want to win the conference crown.

Season Win Total

The season win total for Ole Miss has been set at 9.5 (-140/+110), which seems like a proper gauge of this team entering the year. Ever since Hugh Freeze took over the sidelines in Oxford, he has increased the team's win total by one each season.

Ole Miss always seems to bring their best when they play the best teams and they will need to do it early this season, as they take on FSU and Alabama within the first three weeks of the season. Those games will be a quick measuring stick to see if the Rebels can eclipse 9.5 wins.

Most Important Player: Greg Little

Though I specify true freshman Greg Little, it is really the entire offensive line that will need to step up.

We all know that the offense is going to go through Kelly, but it will be hard if he is being chased down on every other play. Ole Miss will be replacing three of their starting offensive linemen this season – including star left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Specifically, this line will need to be good pass protectors immediately, as Ole Miss isn’t tricking anyone into believing they have a good running game.
