Rockets look for revenge vs Mountaineers in the Dollar General Bowl

Appalachian State takes on the Toledo Rockets in the Dollar General Bowl and the Mountaineers will look to continue their win streak in bowl games. They have won back-to-back bowl games since moving up from the FCS, including defeating Toledo last year at the Camellia Bowl. The Mountaineers opened as 8-point favorites to get the W.

SHARK BITES
  • Toledo is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games.
  • The total has gone OVER in three of Appalachian State’s last four games in December.
  • Appalachian State is 35-9 SU in its last 44 games.

Toledo must have been salivating at the possibility of a rematch with Appalachian State. The Rockets fell 31-28 to the Mountaineers last year on a field goal with five minutes to go. The Rockets won’t have current Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt carrying the rock but his replacement, Terry Swanson, seems to have filled the void, rushing for 466 yards in his last three games. Toledo’s quarterback, Logan Woodside, is no slouch either, throwing eight touchdown passes in his last three games, all victories.

The Mountaineers’ defense has been their calling card as they’ve held teams to 21 points per game this season and limited their final three opponents to 30 points total. If they can get their rushing attack mobilized vs the Rockets defense, Appalachian State could literally run away with the Dollar General Bowl trophy. Junior Jalin Moore has had two 200-yard rushing games this season and paced the backfield with nine rushing touchdowns.
