Biggest College Football Bets - Week 2
The 2012 college football season is underway and when it comes to wagering on the games you need to go big or go home. The following is a look at the biggest line moves, biggest underdogs, and biggest battles on tap for this week’s slate of games. Lines provided by 5Dimes.
Biggest College Football Line Moves - Week 2
Penn State was on this list last week and lost outright as a 6.5-point home favorite to Ohio after the line opened at 10.5. This week it opened as a 6.5-point underdog on the road against Virginia and the betting public has once again turned on the Lions to push the spread to 10 points.
Oregon State opened as an 11-point underdog at home against No. 13 Wisconsin, but confidence in the Badgers has obviously been shaken after last week’s close call against Northern Iowa. The current line has the Beavers as 7-point dogs.
The betting public was obviously impressed with Bowling Green’s performance in Week 1 against No. 24 Florida; covering a 28-point spread in a 14-point loss to the Gators. The Falcons opened as 9-point home favorites against Idaho but the current spread has ballooned to 16.5 points at 5Dimes.
Biggest College Football Underdogs - Week 2
A couple of dogs covered some huge spreads in Week 1 and it is bound to happen again this week. A few matchups to keep an eye on start with Texas spotting New Mexico 38 points at home. The Longhorns failed to cover a 31-point spread at home last week in a 37-17 victory over Wyoming.
No. 4 Oregon will look to pad its early season numbers as a 35-point home favorite against Fresno State. Last Saturday against Arkansas State, the Ducks came up short as 37.5-point home favorites but still rolled to a 57-34 victory.
UL-Monroe is a 30.5-point underdog at 5Dimes against No. 8 Arkansas in a game that will be played in War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The Warhawks have covered the spread in four of the last five meetings dating back to 2004.
No. 2 USC travels east to play Syracuse at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey as a 26-point favorite. The Trojans trounced Hawaii 49-10 at home last week but could not cover the 44.5-point spread.
Biggest College Football Battles - Week 2
A couple of other games of interest on Saturday’s slate include both Texas A&M and Missouri making their debut in the SEC after defecting from the Big 12. The Aggies are 1.5-point home favorites against Florida, and the Tigers play host to the No. 7-ranked Georgia Bulldogs as 2.5-point underdogs at 5Dimes.
There are a couple of other Big Ten vs. Pac-12 showdowns on the schedule in addition to the Wisconsin at Oregon State game. No. 16 Nebraska will be on the road to face the UCLA Bruins as a 6-point favorite, and the Illinois Fighting Illini complete the triple-header as 3.5-point road underdogs against Arizona State.
