Boston College Betting Odds Preview
In a short period of time Boston College has gone from having a pretty decent football program to the bottom of the barrel. In fact it wasn't all that long ago the Eagles had won eight bowl games in a row.
Now they haven't even played in a bowl the last two seasons, and just made another coaching change, after winning just two games last year. It's now up to Steve Addazio, who had a winning record in two seasons at Temple, to get this program back on track.
Boston College had 17 starters back last year and was fully expected to return to a bowl after a one-year absence. Instead, the Eagles sputtered through their worst season since going 2-9 back in 1989. BC started 1-1, that win coming over FCS Maine, then lost six in a row, including one at Army, as the defense got shredded. The Eagles then managed to beat Maryland, played Notre Dame fairly tough, and later lost in OT to Virginia Tech, but in the end BC sat at 2-10, had been out-gained by more than 100 YPG and simply bore little resemblance to Eagles teams of the recent past. Boston College also went just 4-8 ATS last year, 2-6 ATS in the conference and 0-6 ATS on the road. This year, though, coach Addazio inherits a team with 18 returning starters, tied for the most in the ACC.
Eight starters are back on offense, including senior QB Chase Rettig, leading rusher Andre Williams, All-ACC wide receiver Alex Amidon, and three along the offensive line, and 10 are back on defense. However, that defense allowed 456 YPG last year and tallied a grand total of six sacks all season, two of which came in one game. So Addazio will have to whip that unit into shape. This season's schedule is tough, for the ACC. Before the conference slate even starts BC heads out to LA to play USC. In conference the Eagles have to play at Clemson, North Carolina, and Maryland, and host Florida State and Virginia Tech. However, they miss Miami and Georgia Tech. Boston College is likely to be lined as an underdog in at least eight games this year.
