When it comes to betting on college football you need to go big or go home. The following is a look at the biggest line moves, biggest underdogs, and biggest battles on tap for Week 1 of the 2012 college football season, which starts on Thursday night.
College Football's Biggest Line Moves - Week 1
Looking at this week’s line movements for Saturday’s schedule of games, the one contest that jumps off the page is Penn State hosting the MAC’s Ohio Bobcats. This line opened with the Lions favored by 10.5 points, but it has dropped to 6.5 points at 5Dimes.
This is obviously a testament to the betting public’s lack of confidence that the Lions' football team will respond favorably to all the off-field turmoil Penn State has endured.

Another significant line move have Alabama favored by 14 points at 5Dimes against Michigan in this week’s premier matchup after the Tide were opened as 11-point favorites. People just do not like betting against the SEC.
Baylor’s first game without RG3 leading the offense has the betting public a bit nervous with the Bears. They are now favored by 10 points at 5Dimes over SMU after opening up as 13-point favorites.
College Football’s Biggest Underdogs - Week 1
If you like to take the points when betting on college football, why not take a lot of them. Here are some of the biggest spreads for Saturday’s games.
North Texas at LSU (-45) - The Sun Belt’s Mean Green is not that bad of a team but the Tigers might try to make a statement that they are the true No.1 team in the nation.
Hawaii at USC (-42) - The Trojans have been patiently waiting for three years to play a game that means something so the Warriors could be in for a very long night.
Buffalo at Georgia (-38) - Beware of the Bulls. This MAC-East team was a 30.5-point underdog in last year’s season opener against Pittsburgh and easily covered in a 35-16 loss.
Arkansas State at Oregon (-37) - The Red Wolves remain one of the top teams in the Sun Belt and are more than capable of keeping this game much closer than this huge spread.
College Football’s Biggest Battles - Week 1
A couple of other marquee matchups that are ‘must see TV’ this Saturday starts with Clemson (-3 at 5Dimes) at Auburn. This will be the third straight season these two teams have met. The home team has won the first two games straight-up, with Clemson covering the spread in both.
If you are looking for a state rivalry then check-out the MWC Colorado State Rams at the Colorado Buffaloes (-6.5 at 5Dimes) from the Pac-12. The Rams are 7-3 SU in the last 10 meetings, but the series is an even 5-5 ATS.
Week 1 wraps up on Monday night with an early ACC battle that pits Georgia Tech against Virginia Tech with the Hokies favored by 7.5 points at home at 5Dimes. Virginia Tech is 6-2 SU in the last eight meetings, but the Yellow Jackets are 4-2 ATS in the last six.
