There are huge conference showdowns on this week’s schedule that have the potential to completely reshape the BCS rankings, but we have focused our attention on coming up with a couple of top picks that can reshape your bank account.
The following are this week’s top two plays as well as a quick look at which teams have caught the attention of the OddsShark Consensus. All lines quoted have been provided by 5Dimes.
Pick of the Week
The entire Big Ten has been extremely soft this season with the exception of Ohio State, but if you are looking for a couple of teams to back this week in the conference start with Indiana to cover as a 2-point home at 5Dimes favorite over Iowa. The Hoosiers have just one straight-up win in their last five games but they are 4-0 against the spread in their last four. Iowa has dropped its last two games to Penn State at home and Northwestern on the road by a combined 35 points. Add in the fact that the Hawkeyes have an offense that is ranked 107th in the nation in scoring and there is no way they will be able to keep pace with an Indiana team that is still averaging 34.3 points a game.
Another solid play in the Big Ten this Saturday is Michigan State over No. 20 Nebraska as a 1.5-point home underdog. The Spartans’ offense cannot find the end zone this season, but they still have a shutdown defense that has already held Ohio State and Wisconsin to a combined 30 points. The Cornhuskers are not as good as their 6-2 SU record might suggest, especially on the road where they 0-3 ATS while failing to cover twice as favorites.
The OddsShark Consensus
The Duke Blue Devils are having one of their best seasons in years at 6-3, but the consensus is all over No. 13 Clemson at 71.6 percent to cover as a 12-point road favorite at 5Dimes when the two teams clash this Saturday night.
A few other games that the OddsShark Consensus really likes this week sees Kent State covering as a 20-point home favorite against Akron at 71.5 percent, Arkansas State over North Texas as a 4-point road favorite at 71.2 percent, and Louisiana Tech beating Texas-San Antonio by more than 31 points at home at 70.9 percent. The top play on the total line at 72.7 percent is on the OVER in the Rice vs. Tulane game with the line set at 63 at 5Dimes.
The Best of the Rest
The biggest game of the season takes place this Saturday night with No. 1 Alabama traveling to Baton Rouge as an 8-point favorite at 5Dimes to face SEC foe LSU, which is ranked No. 5. The total is set at 41 and the game is set to kick off at 8 p.m.
A few solid matchups on the undercard starts off with a Saturday night clash in the Pac-12 between No. 4 Oregon and No. 17 USC with the Ducks favored by 8.5 points on the road and the total set at 69.5. The No.2 4-ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys are 8.5-point road underdogs in a huge Big 12 showdown against No. 2 Kansas State in an 8 p.m. start. The total for that game is set at 66.5.
