Week 11 of the college football season is relatively quiet in comparison to last Saturday’s major showdowns, but there are still a couple of important conference clashes that could potentially have a significant impact on the current BCS rankings and overall bowl picture.
The following are this week’s top two plays as well as a quick look at a few teams that rank high on the OddsShark Consensus’ top picks for Saturday’s games.
Pick of the Week
The Miami Hurricanes have been a roller-coaster ride all season long with an overall record of 5-4 straight-up but down the stretch they have provided a great return against the spread by covering in five of their last six games. They face Virginia this Saturday afternoon as 1-point favorites on the road at 5Dimes.
The Cavaliers are a woeful 3-6 SU this season and a very costly 1-7-1 ATS. Miami pummeled Virginia Tech 30-12 its last time out as a 1-point home underdog and with a win on Saturday would be in excellent position to run the table with South Florida and Duke left on the slate.
Virginia has won the last two meetings adding the revenge factor to this matchup.
Boston College has given Notre Dame fits over the years and it will look to play the role of spoiler this Saturday as a 19-point home underdog in this season’s contest. The only problem is that the No. 4-ranked Irish are coming off a very close call against Pittsburgh and in need of an impressive win to avoid losing even more ground in the BCS rankings.
You can also add in the fact that BC has just two wins on the season and is 2-7 ATS. Look for Notre Dame’s vaunted defense to put the clamps on the Eagles while its offense scores just enough to cover the 19-point spread.
The OddsShark Consensus
No. 20 Louisiana Tech is the highest-ranked Mid-Major in the country and this week’s top choice by the OddsShark Consensus at 73.5 percent to cover a 20-point spread on the road at 5Dimes against Texas State.
A few other games that are high on the consensus’ confidence level include Central Florida beating UTEP as a 13.5-point road favorite at 73 percent, Marshall as a 3-point favorite on the road over UAB at 72.9 percent, and No. 3 Oregon all over California as a 28-point road favorite at 72 percent.
The top pick on the total line has the Louisiana Tech game going OVER 70 points at 72.4 percent.
The Best of the Rest
There are only three head-to-head matchups between Top 25 teams on Saturday’s schedule starting with No. 11 Oregon State on the road against No. 14 Stanford as a 4.5-point underdog at 5Dimes in a huge Pac-12 North tilt. The total is set at 44.5 and kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. (ET).
At 3:30 p.m. No. 1 Alabama faces its final real test of the regular season when it plays host to No. 15 Texas A&M as a 13.5-point favorite in an SEC West showdown. The total for this matchup is set at 57 with one of the best offenses in the country taking on the Crimson Tide’s shutdown defense.
The only other head-to-head contest pits No. 21 Mississippi State against No. 7 LSU in another SEC West clash. The Tigers are currently favored by 15 points at home with the total line set at 44. This game is set to get underway at 7 p.m.
