Seminoles Look to Take Florida Cup for Fourth Straight Year

The Seminoles will put the Florida Cup back up for contention this week as they re-engage their rivalry with the Gators at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday night. These teams are separated by just two spots in the AP rankings and if the Seminoles are able to extend their three-game winning streak over Florida, it’s likely they will pass the Gators and move a little closer to the top 10.

SHARK BITES
  • The visiting team is 4-1 SU and 5-0 ATS in its last 5 games in this matchup.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Florida's last 9 games on the road against Florida State.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 13 of Florida's last 16 games against the Atlantic Coast.

Although Florida holds the all-time edge in its well-documented matchup with the Seminoles, the series momentum has recently shifted in favor of FSU and last year’s fight for the Florida Cup resulted in a 27-7 FSU win.

The Gators opened as underdogs of almost a touchdown but the computer is predicting a much closer contest. Florida has been one of the best defensive teams in the nation and should be able to slow down Deondre Francois and Dalvin Cook enough to stay in this game. A problem for the Gators in this one is that they have not won a game this year when they’ve allowed more than 14 points and have struggled when they’ve given up more than 400 yards of offense.

Both teams have won and covered their last two games but the Seminoles achieved that feat in spectacular fashion as their average margin of victory in those matchups was 34.5. Florida’s defense has allowed just 13 points per game but if FSU’s offense gets rolling, the Gators could be in trouble.
