Florida In Strange Position As Huge Underdog

Not many people are giving the Florida Gators much of a shot in the SEC championship game against Alabama and books seem to feel the same way. Florida opened as a 21.5-point underdog before quickly shifting to +24 at most books. That is just the second time in our database that the Gators have been underdogs of 20 or more points.

The first time came back on November 30, 2013, when Florida took on the Florida State Seminoles as a 28.5-point dog. That game saw an undefeated FSU team taking on a 4-7 Florida squad that ultimately had its worst season since 1979. The Seminoles easily won that game 37-7 behind Kelvin Benjamin’s 212 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Florida has closed as a dog three times this season and has only covered in one of those games. In the Gators’ three games as underdogs this season, they have been outscored by an average of 7.3 points per game.

Alabama has closed as a favorite every game so far this season and has closed at -20 or more on six occasions. In those six games, Alabama has gone 3-3 ATS with an average scoring margin of +33 points.
