GoDaddy Bowl Matchup

The Georgia Southern Eagles got their second campaign in the Sun Belt off to a strong start, building on last year's 9-3 straight-up record with five wins in their first six outings. However, the Eagles have battled inconsistency since midseason, picking up just three wins in their last six, capping their regular season schedule with a 34-7 loss to Georgia State as massive 20.5-point favorites on the betting odds.

Offensive production from under center has been a real problem for the Eagles. The team ranks dead last in the nation with 61.8 passing yards per game, surpassing that number just twice in their last five outings, and tallying just three total touchdown passes. The club has been a force on the ground, however, leading the nation with 355.6 rushing yards per game, but have only reached that number once in their last four.

Despite a lack of balance in their attack, Georgia Southern has proven capable of running up the score, averaging 47.4 points per game in their eight victories, but have seen the point total finish OVER in just one of their last six, going 4-2 against the spread over that stretch.

The Bowling Green Falcons battled Northern Illinois for the MAC conference crown for a third straight year, earning their second title during that stretch with a 34-14 victory as 14-point favorites. The Falcons have been less successful during bowl season, picking up their first win in their last five with last year's 33-28 win over South Alabama in the Camelia Bowl, covering as 4-point underdogs.

SU winners in nine of their last 10, and dominating on the college football betting odds with an 8-2 ATS record, the Falcons are tops in the nation in total yards heading into this year's GoDaddy Bowl, edging past Baylor with 7293, and could give the Eagles fits with a rush defense that has held opponents to an average of 108.5 ground yards in their past two.

The Falcons have also enjoyed success against Sun Belt opponents in recent years, going 3-1 SU in their last four, including last year's bowl game victory over South Alabama, covering the spread in each of those contests, including three as betting underdogs.
