Coming into the year with the No. 1 ranking, the Oklahoma Sooners had much higher hopes than playing in the Insight Bowl. But here they are, and they’ll take on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Oklahoma looked poised to make a run at the national championship at 6-0 SU (4-2 ATS), but the Sooners went just 3-3 SU (2-4 ATS) in the second half of their schedule, including an inexplicable home loss to Texas Tech. Season-ending injuries to star wide receiver Ryan Broyles and running back Dominique Whaley didn’t help matters down the stretch. Iowa had a decent year in a rebuilding campaign, highlighted by an upset win over Michigan in November.

Landry Jones failed to live up to preseason Heisman Trophy hype and took a step backwards from last year’s production. Still, he ended up fourth in the nation in passing yards with 4,302, and had 28 touchdown passes with 14 interceptions.

-------------------------------

Despite the dismissal of their all-time top receiver and the benching of their best running back, Iowa rolls into the Insight Bowl as just a slight 1-point underdog to 14th-ranked Missouri in the NCAAF odds menu.

[Insight Bowl Matchup Stats]

Consecutive losses to Nebraska and Texas Tech cost Missouri a trip to their third Big 12 championship in four years, but a win in the Insight Bowl will take some of the sting out of those defeats. The Tigers rebounded to take their final three games and can reach the 11-win mark if they take down the Hawkeyes.

The Tigers are known to spread the ball around on offense, as three different backs had at least 380 yards. Missouri will rely mostly on its FBS sixth-best 15.2 points per game allowed to shut down the relentless Hawkeyes.

Missouri should draw lots of interest in college football betting circles with the intriguing Insight Bowl odds. The strong finish by Missouri and sluggish end for Iowa should lend plenty of confidence to bettors who think Missouri will be an easy line to cover.

Iowa hopes to silence all doubters in NCAAF odds for this game, but when two of your best players are gone it can be a daunting task – or a rallying cry. The Hawkeyes were ranked ninth entering the season and were expecting to earn a second consecutive trip to a BCS game.

Three straight losses brought them to fourth in the conference and the Hawkeyes will now have to overcome adversity to get a school-record third straight postseason victory.

Usually a total set at 47 for a college game is not conducive to UNDER betting, but considering these teams combined to pay UNDER bettors 15 times this season you may think twice on that wager.
