Jonny Knows Picks: College Edition Week 6

It’s college picks time again, which is becoming my favorite time of the week. That’s because I’m on blazing hot fire.

I went 8-1 last week with my picks on Outkick with Clay Travis and I’m now 21-6 with my college picks over the past three weeks. Hope you’ve been reading and watching and let’s have another good one.

As always, I’ll tackle the biggest games of the week along with a few others. Some of the big factors I’m looking at for each game are in point form below for your speed handicapping pleasure.

Texas at Oklahoma -10, 73

-Longhorns have covered three straight, all as double-digit underdogs
-Bit of controversy here with rumors that Charlie Strong's job is on the line
-87th- & 88th-ranked total defenses but Texas gets after the QB with 14 sacks this year
-Texas 15th-ranked total offense, Oklahoma 25th-ranked total offense
Pick: Texas

TenneSsee at A&M -7, 55.5

-A&M No. 15 scoring offense in the country, No. 3 red zone defense in the country, No. 2 in tackles for loss
-Tennessee outscored 41-10 in the first quarter this season
-A&M ranks 13th in the nation in total offense with a very balanced offense. Has allowed only 5 sacks this year
-Action is split in this one on the side but a big majority of the money is on the OVER
Pick: UNDER

Alabama at Arkansas +14, 49.5

-Little bit of sharp money on Arkansas here
-Arkansas has covered the spread the last two years in this matchup
-One of the strengths of Arkansas was the O-line but they rank 55th in third-down conversion this year and I think a lot of that is the O-line
-Think Arkansas is in for a long day against a defense that ranks third in the country against the run and leads the nation in defensive TDs (5)
Pick: Alabama

Florida State at Miami -3, 65

-Florida State is a “play against” for the time being until they can get their secondary sorted out after the loss of Derwin James. I called them to be upset last week by UNC, which came through
-Canes have an excellent O-line that ranks third in the nation in sacks allowed
-Miami also has an incredible defense that ranks second in scoring D in the nation. Florida State ranks 105th in scoring D
Pick: Miami

UNC at Virginia Tech -1.5, 58

-Not surprised opening line moved down from -3. Think the wrong team is favored here
-Took UNC to win straight up last week but they run up against a much better defense this week
-Love Va. Tech’s run defense, ranked 25th in the nation with just 113.5 yds against per game
Pick: Virginia Tech

Others:

BYU +6 at Michigan State
-BYU has scored every time it has entered the red zone this season and is tied as the No. 1 offensive red zone team in the country (18 red zone attempts, 9 TDs)
-BYU is 4-1 against the spread
-Independent teams are 12-7 ATS this year
Pick: BYU

Vanderbilt +3 at Kentucky
– Vandy has scored every time it has entered the red zone this season and ranks 11th in the nation in red zone defense
-The Dores have covered the last five meetings and the last four meetings have gone UNDER
Pick: Vanderbilt

Auburn at Mississippi State +3, 54.5
-Mississippi State coming off a bye
-Bulldogs have covered the spread in the last four meetings
-Auburn’s first true road game of the season
-Like Mississippi State’s 4th-ranked SEC run defense to stall Auburn’s rush attack
-Auburn has No. 15-ranked scoring D in the nation
Pick: UNDER
