[Poinsettia Bowl Matchup Stats]
Two conference champions collide in this season’s Poinsettia Bowl as the Western Athletic Champion Louisiana Tech Bulldogs take on the Mountain West Champion TCU Horned Frogs. TCU is looking for its sixth bowl win over the last seven years while Louisiana Tech is looking for its third bowl win all time.
Both TCU and Louisiana Tech come into this bowl game red-hot, ending the season on a seven-game winning streak. TCU went 4-3 ATS over their seven-win streak while Louisiana Tech went a perfect 7-0 ATS over theirs. Louisiana Tech won’t be an easy out for TCU as the Bulldogs finished the season 6-0 ATS as an underdog.
TCU quarterback Casey Pachall helped navigate the Horned Frogs into the post-Andy Dalton era, leading a scoring attack that finished ninth in the nation with 41.7 points per game. Pachall finished the regular season with 2,715 yards passing and 24 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

Navy has one of the best rushing offenses, but that's not enough to give them the edge in the Poinsettia Bowl odds when they face a San Diego State team that allowed the third-fewest rushing yards in the Mountain West.

Navy has a chance to earn back-to-back 10-win seasons if they can hold off the potent offense belonging to the Aztecs when college football betting ramps up in late December at the Poinsettia Bowl. Ricky Dobbs is a dynamic quarterback, throwing for 2,240 yards with 25 touchdowns, while rushing for 860 yards with 13 TDs. And Dobbs has been doing this all during his college career. In fact, he is second among active quarterbacks with 48 rushing touchdowns in just three years.
San Diego State will have more than just Dobbs to contain, with Alexander Teich rushing for 825 yards and five touchdowns while Gee Gee Green also ran for five TDs in getting the Midshipmen to their third Poinsettia Bowl. NCAAF odds don’t favor Navy, but the lack of experience in postseason play for San Diego State could help the Midshipmen early in the game.
The Aztecs boast quite the offense themselves, and even if it is their first bowl appearance in over a decade they will be highly-prepared under head coach Brady Hoke. The Aztecs' defense surrendered under 90 yards on the ground four times this season, and linebacker Miles Burris led the team with 74 tackles. So this team could have the defensive wherewithal to stop the rushing offense of Navy.
Besides a solid run defense, the Aztecs have the Mountain West’s top quarterback in Ryan Lindley. He passed for 3,554 yards, while his 26 touchdown strikes were good enough for a tie in the conference. He’s not alone, either, with the two top receivers in the conference; DeMarco Sampson had 1,175 yards receiving with eight scores, and Vincent Brown racked up 1,187 yards with nine touchdowns.
With both teams possessing highly-offensive attacks, it could be time for totals bettors to consider an OVER wager.
