USC Has Long Held Dominance Over Washington State

USC and Washington State don’t clash as often as they used to since the California schools were placed in different divisions within the Pac-12. However, the Trojans have typically made easy work of the Cougars, winning nine of the past 10 meetings between the two programs while going 7-3 ATS in that span. USC and Washington State will renew their rivalry under the lights on Friday night in Pullman.

Shark Bites
  • USC QB Sam Darnold threw for 22 TDs to 4 INTs vs Pac-12 opponents last season.
  • Washington State is 8-2 SU in its last 10 games against the Pac-12.
  • USC is 1-4 ATS in its last 5 games.

The last time USC and Washington State met on the gridiron came back in 2014 when the Trojans walked to a 44-7 victory. Though both teams have undergone almost complete turnovers since then, QB Luke Falk remains under center for Washington State.

Falk’s skill and knowledge within Mike Leach’s offensive system have made him one of the most prolific college quarterbacks in the country. This season alone, Falk has thrown for 14 touchdowns and just one interception. However, he struggled against Boise State and was ultimately taken off the field due to an apparent head injury. Tavares Martin Jr. has cemented himself as the lead receiver after Gabe Marks left for the NFL this past offseason. The junior leads the Cougars in receiving yards, yards per catch and receiving touchdowns.

USC is still undefeated and is riding the second-longest winning streak in the country but the Trojans are not making it easy on themselves. They have had a tendency to allow teams to stick around, which hasn’t bitten them this season but it is worrisome. The offense is putting up good numbers, aside from their turnovers, but it’s USC’s stingy pass defense that has made it a national championship contender.
