New Years Day BCS Bowl Odds

BCS Bowl season kicks off with New Years Day bowl games with the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

Rose Bowl odds – Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Oregon Ducks

It’s been awhile since a team from the Pac-10 other than USC was in the Rose Bowl. The Ducks finally snapped the Trojans’ Rose Bowl streak at four and return to Pasadena for the first time since 1995.

The Ducks were a force in the Pac-10 this season, boasting the top scoring offense in the conference led by QB Jermiah Masoli. The mobile pivot was dangerous both through the air and on the ground this season with 2066 passing yards and 15 TD passes and 659 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs.

Masoli wasn’t the Ducks only option on the ground either. Freshman LaMichael James racked up an impressive 1476 yards and 14 TDs. Both of them will be in tough in the Rose Bowl against the Buckeyes best in the Big Ten defense.

Ohio State’s defense wasn’t just the best in the Big Ten it ranked among the best in the nation this season. The Buckeyes owned the fifth best defense in college football and they were fourth overall against the run.

Offensively the Buckeyes were an inconsistent bunch behind QB Terrelle Pryor. Like Masoli, Pryor is also a double threat with 1820 passing yards and 16 TD passes and 707 rushing yards and seven TD runs this season.

According to the latest odds on the Rose Bowl over at Bovada the oddmakers are putting more stock in the Pac-10 this season than the Big Ten after listing Oregon as a 4-point favorite. One important note to remember is that one of Ohio State’s two losses this season came against USC, who the Ducks dismantled 47-20.

Sugar Bowl odds – Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Florida Gators

Could this be Urban Meyer’s last game as head coach of the Florida Gators?

That looked like the case last week after Meyer suddenly and surprisingly resigned. However, after Meyer’s resignation was toned down to a leave of absence due to health concerns we may not have seen the last of him at Florida after all.

No matter if Meyer’s leaving for good or for a few months the Gators want to send him out with a win. Florida missed out on the BCS title game after losing to Alabama in the SEC championship, but they don’t want another blemish on their season.

Tim Tebow leads a Florida offense which ranked No. 1 in the SEC this season. Tebow, playing in his final college game, is one of the most lethal double threats in the game and should look to put on a show in his good bye to Florida.

The Bearcats are still perfect after surviving the regular season 12-0. They boast the top offense in the Big East, which is even more amazing when you consider they played without their starting QB for half the season.

Quarterback Tony Pike appeared in only nine games due to injury, but still passed for 2350 yards and 26 touchdowns. Pike has two top-notch in Mardy Gilyard and Armon Binns and they combined for 21 TDs this season. Pike’s fully healthy now and will start the Sugar Bowl.

Despite the Bearcats undefeated mark they’re still a 13-point underdog versus the Gators over at Bovada. The Bearcats offense may be the best in the Big East, but they could meet their match in the Florida defense that was the No. 3 scoring defense in all of college football this season.
