NFC North odds slimming for Bears in Monday Nighter

The Packers won’t make the playoffs, but they can have fun the final two weeks by continuing their domination at Soldier Field and ensuring Detroit goes winless.

First things first. The Monday Night Football odds favor the Bears at -4, but the oddsmakers must be aware that the Packers are 12-2 in their last 14 trips to Chicago?

NFC North odds - Green Bay Packers (5-9) at Chicago Bears -4 (8-6) O/U 40

The Bears still have a shot at winning the NFC North, but need to win tonight’s game.

The Bears should send a gift basket to the Atlanta Falcons, who beat Minnesota and kept the Bears in the playoff picture. If the Bears win tonight and then next week against Houston and Minnesota loses to the Giants next week, the Bears will win the NFC North.

The Bears need to forget their last game against the Packers, as they were crushed 37-3 back on November 16th at Lambeau Field.

The Bears will look to control the ground, as rookie Matt Forte (8th leading rusher in the NFL) will get a lot of carries tonight. Green Bay only has the league’s 24th ranked defense and they are not good at stopping the run.

The Bears’ defense is ranked 17th in the league and while they are legit at defending the run they are weak defending the pass.

Aaron Rodgers has put up good numbers this season (3470 yds 23 TD 12 INT), but Cheese-heads have not forgotten about Farve since the Packers have lost six of their last seven games including their last four.

Rodgers has been good, but also inconsistent, as since the Packers crushed the Bears he has 10 TDs but also has seven interceptions.

The Bears have to contain Rodgers, as the Bears do not have the offensive firepower if the game becomes a shootout.

This season the Bears are 6-6-2 ATS and the Packers are 6-7-1.

The Packers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games when playing on the road against the Bears and the total has gone Over in 16 of the Packers last 23 games. The Bears have won 2 straight games and the total has gone Over in 7 of the Bears last 9 games at Soldier Field.

OddsBlogger Pick: Look for the Bears to come out and play smash-mouth football and run the ball a ton tonight. The Packers will not be able to stop Forte and the Bears defense will step up and play well in this critical game. Look for a low scoring game and for the Bears to win and cover the spread.
