NFL Week 1 odds moves
Getting your football wagers in early come sometimes mean the difference between a winning and a losing bet.
That could be the case in NFL Week 1 betting, as a number of games have seen big odds changes since their odds first appeared in August.
The biggest moves were in the Dallas/Tampa Bay game and the San Diego/Oakland game where the line has moved 2.5 points. In August, the Cowboys were a 3-point road favorite against the Bucs, but right now you can only get them as a 5.5-point chalk at Bovada.
The Cowboys are always a popular choice for bettors and the Bucs firing their offensive coordinator a week before the start of the season likely didn’t help either.
The early line for San Diego at Oakland had the Chargers listed as a 6.5-point road favorite. Right now that line has shifted to the Chargers as a 9-point chalk. Bettors must have been pounding that 6.5-point line for such a dramatic shift in the line.
With nearly a week to go before the Chargers and Raiders kickoff on Monday night there’s still time for the line to keep moving so if you’re thinking about taking the Chargers, do it now.
Other noteworthy moves that bettors need to know about include a 1.5-point move in Kansas City at Baltimore and Detroit at New Orleans.
The Chiefs also cut their offensive coordinator after their offense showed nothing during the preseason. The Ravens started out as a 9-point favorite, but they’re a 10.5-point chalk right now over at Bovada
A shift in the line for Detroit at New Orleans should have been a given as soon as it was posted. Think about it, who’s really going to bet on the Lions right now? The Saints have grown from 11.5-point favorite to 13-point chalk and there’s no guarantee that’s going to stop before Sunday.
