NFL Week 4 Opening Lines
Since the betting public determines how much the point spread will move and when it will move, there are some games where it may be better to bet early and other games where it may be better to bet late. Let's take a look at games where the action should move the line during the week and try to find some early advantages to get a better spread.
Knowing when to bet is just as important as knowing who to bet on.
The 49ers travel to the Big Easy to play the Saints, who are favored by 6 points. The Saints have lost two in a row and their D is ranked 28th and can’t stop the pass. The 49ers are 2-1 and their passing attack has been solid. Because of this many people may take the 49ers to at least cover the spread, so the line may go down to 4 or 5. So if you plan to bet on the 49ers, it is a good time to bet early.
Also, the Chargers finally got their first win last week and this week play the Raiders and are favored by 7 points. The Raiders rank 21st on offense and cannot stop the pass. The Chargers are averaging almost 280 yards passing per game.
It looks as if the Chargers may be turning things around and the line may go up, as not a lot of people will take Oakland in this game. If you plan on betting on the Chargers, it may be a good idea to bet early. If you think the Raiders will cover the spread, why not wait until they are +9 instead of betting them at +7?
Doesn’t seem like a big difference, but a few times every year, getting that extra point or two makes a difference in winning and losing.
Philadelphia is favored by 3.5 points, as they travel to Chicago this Sunday. The Bears are 1-2 and their D is ranked 18th and is horrible against the pass. The Eagles offense is on fire and they rank sixth in the league.
The line may go up to 4 or 5 and if you want to take the Bears wait to wager, as Philly is hot right now and the public will not bet against them, especially since the Bears are not the team they were when they made the Super Bowl. Watch the status of Philly RB Brian Westbrook in this one as he was injured against Pitt.
It’s also a game where Donovan McNabb goes to play against his hometown team – will he try to do too much?
